Galisteo Basin

Galisteo Basin is a region in north-central New Mexico, approximately 24 kilometers south of Santa Fe. The pool is fed by the Galisteo Creek. Northeast of Galisteo Basin lies the mountain range of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and in southwest lie the Sandia Mountains. Due to its location as the connection of the Great Plains to the Rio Grande Valley went through the Galisteo Basin a trade route of the prehistoric and historic Indians and later the Spanish conquerors.

The Galisteo Basin has as a part of the Pueblo culture ( Anasazi Eastern ) a rich cultural history. Most of the sites are currently closed to the public. The most famous Pueblo ruins within the basin is the San Cristobal Pueblo.
