Galitska Synagogue

The Halyzka Synagogue (Ukrainian Галицька синагога; Yiddish Beith Yaakov Shul בית יעקב שול ) is a synagogue in Kiev in the Ukraine. It is located in the district Holossijiw in Schyljanska Street.

History

The synagogue was built in 1909. Over 50 years the building was used for the production of coffee. In 2001, the building was returned to the Jewish community of Kiev. Since then, the synagogue is also used as a socio - cultural center.

Events

2004, an exhibition " The Architecture of the Shtetl " in the Halyzka Synagogue. On August 7, 2006 Kiev citizens met in the synagogue Israeli Knesset member who had come to Ukraine. The meeting was part of a joint venture program between the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Euro - Asian Jewish Congress. It was the relevance of the Jewish Diaspora by Michael Nudelman, emphasizes representing the Kadima Party and Joseph Shagal, as a representative of the party " Israel Our Home ".

The Halyzka synagogue also serves as the center of Jewish and Israeli History and Culture in collaboration with the Midrash Tzionit Educational Center. The center is one of the new programs of the Institute of Jewish Studies, which is supported by the Jewish Agency " Sohnut ".

Regular exhibitions on the life of the Jewish and Israeli history and culture and the life of the Jewish population of Kiev and Ukraine complete the program.
