The Dreihörnige bedstraw ( Galium tricornutum ) is an indigenous plant species in Central Europe from the family of Rubiaceae ( Rubiaceae ).

Description

The Dreihörnige bedstraw is an annual herbaceous plant. It reaches heights of growth from 10 to 80 cm. The stems are lying or klimmend are square and have downwardly directed bristles sting.

The leaves are einaderig or only indistinctly veined and stand six or eight in whorls. They have a spike tip, are bald at the top, sitting on the leaf margin backward spines.

The flowers are in dreiblütigen partial inflorescences. Do not overlap the liner sheet, and are arranged in tiers. The crown is greenish-white, has no clearly pronounced tube and is narrower than the mature fruit. The fruit stalks are bent back.

The dry fruits are divided into two part -seeded fruits. These are ovoid, 3-5 mm long. The surface of the fruit is covered with short spiny warts.

Dissemination and locations

In Central Europe the species is a archaeophyte. In Austria it is threatened with extinction. In South Tyrol, it is extinct. It grows in fields and dumps, mostly on moderately dry, nutrient-rich, rather calcareous soils. It rises up in the submontane altitudinal zone.
