Gallardet Dolmen

The Dolmen de Gallardet (also Dolmen du Pouget ) is located east of the river Hérault, one kilometer from the village of Le Pouget in the department of Hérault in southern France. Dolmen in France is the generic term for megalithic sites of all types ( see: French nomenclature ).

The restored transition system is one of the largest dolmen in the region of Languedoc -Roussillon and is located in an elongated hill. The designed megalithic passage and open the chamber created from small -sized stones are about 12 m long, and consist partly of dry masonry (French Pierre sèche ). Megalithic are also the access and end block of the chamber and the cover stones, one of which is missing four of the past. Has the cracked access stone to the long and narrow chamber a beautifully rounded out picktes " kennel hole" (called a cat flap ), as have some plants (eg Sardinian giants' tombs ) in the Mediterranean region, but also invest in Thrace and Russia. The neatly laid stone walls of the two-meter high chamber from zugearbeitetem plate material collar slightly, so that the cross section narrows towards the top. This form seems from the caves of Arles- Fontvieille group to be like the Grotte de la Source influences that are much higher, however. the system was re-used for in Roman times.
