Gambetta (Paris Métro)

Gambetta is an underground station of the Paris Métro. It is located in the 20th arrondissement of Paris below the Rue de Belleville. The station is served by the metro line 3 and the metro line 3 bis.

The station was taken on January 25, 1905 opening of the line 3 in operation. 1921 was the extension from there to the Porte des Lilas. The originally intended extension further to Les Lilas, however, was rejected in favor of the construction of the metro line 11. In 1971 the line was extended from 3 Gambetta to Gallieni after. The little -used branch between Gambetta and Porte des Lilas was rebuilt as part of the extension and largely separated from the main branch of Line 3. The shuttle bus runs since then as line 3 bis.

The original Bahnhofanlage decreed from 1905 on a arrival and a Abfahrbahnsteig in central location at the ends of a turning loop. With the extension to Porte des Lilas the tracks were established at the northern end of the turning loop so that trains still had to go through this. With the extension of line 3 by Gallieni the old arrival platform of the departure platform ( direction Père Lachaise ), however, was closed ( to Porte des Lilas ), converted to a terminus for the line 3 bis. For line 3, the nearby station Martin Nadaud was closed and midway between this and the new station Gambetta Gambetta. The direct connection between the two lines was abandoned and the route turned into a connecting tunnel for pedestrians.
