Gambian legislative election, 1954

The parliamentary elections in British Gambia in 1954 found in the West African British colony of Gambia in 1954 instead. These elections were for four elected seats in the Legislative Council ( english Legislative Council ), a forerunner of the House of Representatives (English House of Representatives ).

The seats won by Pierre Sarr N'Jie, John Colley Faye, Ibrahima Garba Momodou - Jahumpa and Henry A. Madi.

Election procedures and circles

It was the third time that representatives were elected to the Legislative Council.

The number of constituencies which was unchanged compared to the election in 1951. From the city of Bathurst ( the former name of Banjul ) three members and the Kombo-St. Mary Area (also been known as British combo ) one member elected directly.

Predial

Before the election was founded under the leadership of Pierre Sarr N'Jie 1952, the United Party (UP). From Bathurst Young Muslim Society ( BYMS ) under the leadership Ibrahima Garba Momodou - Jahumpa the Gambia Muslim Congress (GMS ). John Colley Faye came back to the Gambia Democratic Party ( GDP). Before the election, Gambian People's Party by George St. Clair Joof was founded.

This occurred at six candidates to win the four seats.

Of the votes cast 000000000007477.00000000007.477 John Colley Faye, Ibrahima Garba Momodou - Jahumpa and Henry A. Madi reached the necessary majority and were elected.
