Games Convention

The Games Convention (abbreviated GC ) took place from 2002 to 2008 annually in Leipzig trade fair for interactive entertainment, infotainment, hardware, entertainment and computer games instead. It was an event of Leipziger Messe GmbH, as an honorary sponsor functioned until the end of 2008, the Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software ( BIU).

Games Convention to 2008

The fair was traditionally held in the last week of August in all five halls of the Leipzig Exhibition Centre and offered to the public from Thursday to Sunday admission, while representatives of the press and dealers on Wednesday was provided an exclusive trade day. She was the most important show of its kind in Europe, and moved in 2007 to 185,000 visitors, 503 exhibitors and over 3,300 media representatives from 46 countries. Thus, it was next to the Electronic Entertainment Expo ( E3) and the Tokyo Game Show, the most important video game trade show in the world. The exhibitors from 31 countries showed not only the latest games but also projects begun and future releases. The show, however, was replaced in 2009 by the gamescom in Cologne.

The GC was used from 2002 to 2008 as both trade visitors as well as a public exhibition. While the business center was the trade visitors, exhibitors and the press reserved for mostly young players filled the exhibition halls.

At the fair value was placed on family-friendliness. This was, among other things, the so-called 'GC Family " that has its own exhibition hall occupied in 2006 and 2007 and for the most part presented educational software. Also in the 'GC Family " hall stands the USK, the BPjM or bpb were to find that parents and teachers informed about the protection of minors, as well as various stalls offering technical colleges, the computer- game-related courses. In 2008, this area has been greatly reduced.

In order to make the pursuit of the protection of minors directly at the fair clearly colored wristbands were issued. Based on these exhibitors were visitors to the ages " From 6 " (yellow), " From 12" (green), " From 16" ( blue) and "Down 18" ( red) classify and certain screenings only for people who have had reached the age required to make available.

Two days before the actual event each GCDC ( Games Convention Developer Conference ) took place for developers, a day before the exhibition opening concert was performed until 2007 at the Leipzig Gewandhaus (see game music concert ).

2008, a new attendance record with over 200,000 visitors have been prepared.

Games Convention Online in 2009

The former honorary sponsors BIU supports since 2009 no longer the Games Convention, but the new gamescom trade fair in Cologne.

The Leipzig Trade Fair was still known to want to align the Mass according to the record number of visitors in 2008 and 2009. Support has also been announced by the Free State of Saxony and the city of Leipzig. The focus was now on -line, mobile and browser games. The fair took place with a new name from July 31 to August 2 as Games Convention Online in 2009. In addition to the traditional on-site visitors could also participate online. The Games Convention Online 2010 was instead a pure trade fair. For the year 2011 and all following the Games Convention Online was canceled by the organizer.

The Games Convention abroad

An Asian offshoot of the Games Convention took place in September 2007 to 2009, held in Singapore with the GCA Games Convention Asia.

In addition, the organizers were planning to host a Games Convention in North America.
