Gamma Virginis

γ Virginis (Gamma Virginis, γ Vir ) is a double star consisting of two almost equally bright main sequence stars with magnitudes of 3.48 mag and 3.50 may, both of which belong to the spectral type F0. The apparent total brightness is 2.7 mag. The system is approximately 38.6 light years from the Sun.

The system has an orbital period of around 170 years. The closest approach reached the last two components in 2005; Since then, they separate once more.

The star bears the historical proper names Porrima (name an Italian goddess of birth ). As ekliptiknaher star it can be covered by the moon and planets ( rare).
