Gamsbart

The Gamsbart (also Gämsbart ) is a traditional costume belonging, common in parts of Austria and Old Bavaria Hutschmuck in men.

He is from the back hair ( " Aalst bloom" ) adult Gamsböcke tufted or fan shape, probably because of the fur texture mainly from animals that are killed as winter approaches. The bright peaks, the so-called " bloom" are in real Gamshaar only a few millimeters long. Gamsbart, especially large specimens are quite expensive; cheaper, but still less common is a deer beard, in which the " bloom" can be up to 2 cm long. In some regions, also wild hair beards from Badger, tahr and wild boar hairs are recovered.

The wild hair beard binding is considered high art. For a variety of operations from the shaving of the hair over the washing and picking up to bind several hours are required. Besides professional Gamsbartbindern some hunters operate the Gamsbartbinden. Depending on the skills and abilities of the binder hair are used from one to ten chamois for a beard. Among the wild hair beard ties corresponding annual comparison competitions are held.
