Ganden Sumtseling Monastery

The Ganden Monastery Sumtseling (Tib. dga ' ldan srong btsan gling ) is a monastery of Tibetan Buddhism in Shangri -La, the former Zhongdian (中甸 县), in Deqin Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Yunnan province. It is the largest monastery of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism in Yunnan. (Caution: There are many alternate names, see below)

1679 was the fifth Dalai Lama - Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso - asked the Chinese Emperor Kangxi to the approval, had himself selected the place, built the temple and gave him his name. Qing Emperor Yongzheng gave him the Chinese name Guihua Monastery. The temple was the place of residence known Tibetan Buddhist monks.

It is on the itinerary of many tourists to Tibet. The border with the province of Sichuan is located in its vicinity.
