GANEFO

As GANEFO (Games of the New Emerging Forces dt: " Games of the new emerging forces " ) was named a 1963 and 1966 discharged multisport event.

History

The games were intended as a counterpoint to the Olympics and found in 1963 in Jakarta and 1966 in Phnom Penh instead. The Chinese Cultural Revolution prevented a third host in 1969. During the first Ganefo took 51 countries with approximately 2,700 athletes from all continents participate. The IOC stated that athletes who would take part in these games, would be closed for the next Olympics. The Soviet Union sent because of a "B - Team".

On the second Ganefo in Phnom Penh located approximately 2,000 athletes from 17 Asian countries participated. For the football tournament was previously held a qualifying tournament in Pyongyang in August 1965. Participated because even an African team with Guinea. However, since this failed to qualify, there remained a purely Asian participants.
