Garda hitch

The Garda Garda loop or terminal is used as a backstop always where a rope with train in one direction block in the other direction but to slide. It offers the great advantage of being able to be implemented with conventional, the " husband " located aids the sports and technical climbing. Required two identical carbine in a loop of the Express sets, failing that, Cord - slings. The finished Garda loop blocked in train at the load rope. The system is simple, safe and traceable, can be easily prepared, but has the disadvantage that the clamping can be resolved only upon relief of the load cable.

Application

The Garda loop is used in the pulley as a backstop. Thus, the load rope is blocked after each stroke. The deflection or pulley can then be moved for another stroke, and thus also longer stroke lengths in the elevator loads are manageable.

The Garda sling is used in particular in mountain rescue, in crevasse rescue on glaciers and in the high-altitude rescue, such as the Swiss pulley, in the self- pulley or Münchhausenplatz technology.

Tie

Two identical carabiner be equal lying hooked into one end of a quickdraw and inserted the cable into the two carabiners. The pull cable, in which the direction of pull the rope to slide (in the picture down and out constantly ) will be inserted in parallel and in the same direction to the load rope a second time in the spring hook, into which passes the load cable. This time it is hooked but only in a carabiner and then brought out again between the two carabiners.

Insert the rope: the load cable coming from the left

Pull rope insert: parallel to the load cable again in the load rope and carabiner clamped between the carabiners

The finished Garda loop blocked at train load on rope

Alternatives

  • A low-cost backstop is a Cord with Prusik knot or other terminal node The application, however, is more complicated, because the node has to be adjusted after each stroke by hand. That makes him even more uncertain because it an extra hand is needed.
  • If no identical carbines are available, then a backstop with a figure of eight and a carabiner to be built as Kara -eight loop.
  • A mechanical backstop is the cable clamp (chest clamp) or the ascender.
  • There are pulleys with built-in backstop.
  • Particularly lightweight but less time creating the Tibloc.
  • Belts in a similar clamp mechanism is used, the double "D "-terminal belt
