Garde Gardom

Garde Basil Gardom, OBC, QC ( born July 17, 1924 in Banff, Alberta, † June 18, 2013 ) was a Canadian politician. He was more than two decades in the province of British Columbia politically active and held several ministerial posts. From 1995 to 2001 he was vice- governor of that province.

Biography

Gardom studied law at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He then pursued a career as a lawyer. In 1966 he stood as a candidate in the constituency Vancouver - Point Grey successfully for a seat in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. Five times in a row, he succeeded in re-election (1969, 1972, 1975, 1979 and 1983).

1974 moved to Gardom British Columbia Social Credit Party. The following year, Prime Minister Bill Bennett appointed him to the Cabinet, where he was first Attorney General and Chairman of the Group. Beginning in 1979, was Gardom Minister for External Relations, Chairman of the Law Commission and director of the province 's own insurance company Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. In 1985 he was appointed responsible for official visits at Expo 86 and in this function host to numerous dignitaries from around the world.

Gardom retired from politics in 1987, after he was appointed Agent General for British Columbia in London. As such, he represented the interests of the province in the UK and several European countries. Governor General Roméo LeBlanc sworn him on 21 April 1995 as the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. This representative office he held until 21 September 2001.
