Gare de Denfert-Rochereau

The station Denfert -Rochereau ( formerly Gare de Sceaux ) is at the same place, the Place Denfert -Rochereau in the 14th arrondissement of the French capital Paris. He is one of the few remaining stations from the first days of the French railways. Today there keep the RER line B.

History

On June 7, 1846 opened the Count of Nemours and of Montpensier, on behalf of her father, the French king Louis- Philippe I, the built in round form 1842-1846 Station. The station Denfert -Rochereau was a great turn loop and the building was adapted to the configuration of the tracks.

Here here ended the so-called Ligne de Sceaux trains. The axes have been rotated after a somewhat complicated process in the curves depending on the curve radius, so that in contrast to the rigid axles used previously accounted for the impairment of the tracks through an angle to the tracks standing wheels. The inauguration of the station was also the opening of the brand new railway line Ligne de Sceaux between Denfert- Rochereau and today the Paris suburb of Sceaux, operated by the Compagnie du Sceaux. The route was operated in a then unusual as it is today Route gauge of 1750 mm.

Ligne de Sceaux in 1895 was extended underground at a simultaneous Umspurung to 1450 millimeters to Gare du Luxembourg, Denfert- Rochereau was no longer the terminus of the suburban route. 1977 extended the RATP, the railway line from Gare de Luxembourg continue underground to the major urban station Châtelet Les Halles. With the opening of the tunnel and the operation of the new network Réseau Express Régional Paris suburb (RER) began on the track, the Ligne de Sceaux is, since RER B, but the station Denfert- Rochereau has not changed significantly.
