Garfagnana

The Garfagnana is a mountain in the Italian province of Lucca. It is between the Apuan Alps and the Apennines and is drained by the Serchio. As one of the rainiest areas in Italy it is heavily wooded with chestnut, oak and pine trees. The main town is Castelnuovo di Garfagnana.

Prior to the unification of Italy, the region belonged to the Duchy of Modena the Este family. In the 16th century, Ludovico Ariosto was a short time, her manager.

While in the past, agriculture was the most important branch, it is tourism today.
