Garfield Sobers

Sir Garfield St Aubrun Sobers AO ( born July 28, 1936 in Bridgetown, Barbados ) is a former cricketer from Barbados who played for the team from the West Indies.

Garfield Sobers is regarded as the best allrounder in the history of cricket sport. In 2000 he was chosen by a jury of the Wisden Cricketers ' Almanack with 90 of 100 possible points to one of the five best cricketers of the 20th century.

Career

Garfield Sobers played a total of 93 matches in Test cricket. In these 93 matches, he scored a total of 8032 runs ( 57.78 runs per wicket ). As a bowler, he scored in his 93 Test matches 235 wickets ( 34.03 runs per wicket ). His debut at a meeting in Test cricket as he celebrated 17 -year-old in March 1954 against England in Kingston, Jamaica. His last match in Test cricket, he played in April 1974 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, also against the English team. In 39 tests he captained the West Indies Cricket team. He held for 37 years the record for the most runs scored in a Test innings. This record (365 Runs ), which was broken by Brian Lara later, he set in 1958 against Pakistan. Sobers played at club level, among others, for the English First-Class County of Nottinghamshire. Here he became the first player ever in a first-class cricket match to beat in an over the ball six times on the sidelines addition (ie to achieve six points six times ).

Others

Garfield Sobers was beaten for his contributions to the sport of Cricket in 1975 by Queen Elizabeth II knighted. The International Cricket Council has awarded since 2004, the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the best player of the year. Garfield Sobers was active not only as a cricketer. He played for the national team of Barbados also football and basketball. Garfield Sobers was married from 1969 to 1990 with the Australian Pru Kirby. From this marriage he has two children. Since 1980, in addition to Sobers has the citizenship of his native country and Australian citizenship.
