Garland Wilson

Garland Lorenzo Wilson ( born June 13, 1909 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, † May 31, 1954 in Paris) was an American pianist of boogie woogie and stride piano.

Biography

Garland Wilson studied at Howard University in Washington, DC and worked in the 1930s in nightclubs in New York City. 1932 Wilson accompanied the singer Nina Mae McKinney on a European tour. Wilson worked at that time in England with various bands and played some records with Nat Gonella and starring Jack Payne one.

In Paris, created in 1935 recordings with the French singer Jean Sablon and the guitarist Django Reinhardt; He also took records with Michel Warlop on ( " Limehouse Blues "). In 1939 he returned to the United States, where he remained until 1951 and then finally to London (1952 /3) and then moved to Paris. This year also emerged shots with Danny Polo, Herman Chittison, Emmanuel and Nina Mae McKinney Soudieux.
