Garmarna

Garmarna is a Swedish folk rock band, whose repertoire consists mainly of old Scandinavian ballads and original compositions. Unlike the neo- acoustic sounds Hedningarnas their music is more rock and electronic effects become more prominent in the foreground.

History

Garmarna was established in 1990 by three young Stefan Brisland - Furthermore, God Ringqvist and Rickard Westman from Sundsvall. Inspired by old Swedish music they had heard in the theater on Hamlet, they looked for old tunes and instruments. After the first year together, Jens Höglin joined as the drummer.

The first EP was produced in 1992. The long-term girlfriend Emma Härdelin was invited as a female vocal part, because they made ​​a good contrast to the dark mood of the music; all the more so because the natural sound of her voice was not formed by a classical vocal training. The debut of the band sold well in Sweden and was accompanied by a tour of Scandinavia. A year later, Emma was also an official member of the group.

On the next album " Vittrad " the band decided on the use of sampling and sequencers in the mix. In Germany, the album was released with German text transmission at West Park Music; Published in 1994, Omnium Vittrad in the U.S. with English translations of the ancient texts.

The band toured regularly - mainly in Sweden, Germany and the USA. The follow-up album of 1996 " Guds Spelemän " received great reviews internationally and sold accordingly. In 1998, a series of concerts in churches of northern Sweden, where she presented her interpretation of medieval works of Hildegard von Bingen with actress Felicia Konrad the band.

In 1999, the third album was released " Vedergällningen " whose production is oriented more to rock and trip-hop. Subsequently completed and completed the band in the studio, the " Hildegard of Bingen " album, which was released in 2001. The album consists of musical settings of Latin texts of Hildegard von Bingen and focuses less on rock elements, but mixed medieval sounds with elements of electronic music.
