Garnet Carter

Garnet Carter (born 9 February 1883 in Sweetwater, Lewis County, Tennessee, † July 21, 1954 in Lookout Mountain, Hamilton County, Tennessee) was the inventor of miniature golf.

Career

In 1927 he opened his first golf course in the train Fairyland Club Lookout Mountain. To his surprise, the place was taken over by adults who had fun at the miniaturized fairway.

He then began to produce more mini golf courses under the patented name Tom Thumb Golf. In 1930 there were 25,000 places in the U.S.. In 1932 he sold the rights and opened together with his wife Frieda 's Rock City Garden.
