Garry Herbert

Garry Gerard Paul Herbert (born 3 October 1969 in London) is a former British coxswain in rowing, which was 1992 Olympic champion in pairs with coxswain.

Career

Herbert drove the British eighth at the Junior World Championships in 1987 to fourth place. His first try at World Rowing Championships in adult class had Herbert 1991, when he won the bronze medal with the British eighth. In 1992 he formed with Gregory Searle and Jonathan Searle from the 1991 eight one two with coxswain. In the finals of the Olympic Regatta 1992 by Barcelona, the British defeated the Italian two with Carmine Abbagnale, Giuseppe Abbagnale and Giuseppe Di Capua, who had dominated this boat class in the 1980s. The brothers Searle and helmsman Herbert won even at the World Rowing Championships in 1993 in Račice u Štětí. While Searles rowed from 1994 in uncontrolled four, Garry Herbert moved back into the eighth, according to an eighth place finish at the World Championships in 1994 and a sixth place in 1995 missed the British eighth at the 1996 Olympic Games the finals and finished in second place of the B-final overall eighth place.
