Gary Burghoff

Gary Burghoff ( born May 24, 1943 in Bristol, Connecticut ) is an American actor. He became famous for the role of Radar O'Reilly, he is the only actor in both feature film M * A * S * H as depicted in the following television series.

His mother Ann Burghoff, a dancer, brought him early in the dancing. Teaching myself he learned to play the drums; this he succeeded, despite a crippling three fingers of the left hand.

Due to his performance in the Broadway musical You're a Good Man - Charlie Brown, the director Robert Altman was aware of him and offered him the role of the radar O'Reilly in the feature film M * A * S * H. Burghoff played the role of the lovable infantile and always helpful scribe company so convincing that was also offered in the following television series him the same role. 1979 rose Burghoff from the beginning of Season 8 of the series. (In some preturned scenes he still came, however, also in the eighth season on ). The years of intense days of filming for M * A * S * H led Gary Burghoff increasingly in a state of chronic exhaustion ( burnout ). This resulted in angry outbursts and temper tantrums on film sets. Having these circumstances in 1996 in the English M * A * S * H newsgroup were hotly debated, it's his mate Mike Farrell was who took his behavior in protection.

His disability to the hand was visually concealed in the movies.
