Gary Rossington

Gary Rossington ( born December 4, 1951 in Jacksonville, Florida ) is an American musician. He is co-founder, guitarist and songwriter of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Life

Rossington founded with his friends Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins, Larry Junstrom and Bob Burns in the summer of 1964 the band that later became known as Lynard Skynard, and soon after the final name Lynyrd Skynyrd. Your first success, the band had in 1973 with Freebird, 1974 followed by Sweet Home Alabama. In a plane crash on 20 October 1977, the band members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve and Cassie Gaines and the tour manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary and the co- pilot William Gray were killed. The other members survived injured.

The early 1980s played Rossington with some of the other surviving band members together in the Rossington - Collins band that existed but only until 1986. In 1982 he married Dale Krantz, with whom he has two daughters, Mary and Annie. Rossington still plays in a newly formed Lynyrd Skynyrd - formation.

Equipment

Rossington played a Gibson SG. The SG is from the early 60s. Gary puts live but only at a " Free Bird". Much, however, is his famous Gibson Les Paul, of which there are also a Gibson signature model from 2003 in a limited edition of 250 pieces. Model for his slide playing with bottlenecks was Duane Allman, one of the founders of the Allman Brothers Band.
