Gary Schocker

Gary Shocker ( born October 18, 1959) is an American flutist and composer.

Shocker debuted the age of fifteen as a flute soloist with the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra. He toured through Australia, New Zealand, Colombia, Panama, Taiwan, Germany, France, Canada and Japan and often performed in a duo with guitarist Jason Vieaux. Among the musicians with whom he collaborated include Pinchas Zuckerman, Michael Tilson Thomas, Earl Wild, Jessye Norman, Julius Baker, James Levine, James Galway, Bruno Canino, Oscar Shumsky, Eduardo Fernandez and Jean -Philippe Collard.

In addition to pieces for flute and other chamber music can be found among the more than 100 compositions shocker also choral works, songs, and several musicals, including Far From the Madding Crowd and The Awakening, which were both winners at the Global Search for New Musicals in the UK. Shocker was twice winner of the Composition Competition of the International Clarinet Association and has received numerous the Newly Published Music Award of the National Flute Association. For James Galway he composed the three-movement flute concerto Green Places, which premiered this at Adair Festival in Ireland. Guns are private flute lessons and teaches at New York University.
