Gary Tobian

Gary Milburn Tobian ( born August 14, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan ) is a former American professional diver, the 1960 Olympic champion in springboard diving.

While many other U.S. diver moved to Michigan to train there, launched a native of Michigan Tobian for the Los Angeles Athletics Club and studied at the University of Southern California. He won from 1955 to 1960 six times in a row the AAU champion in springboard diving and also won twice in diving.

His first international medal was awarded Tobian at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 when he won the silver tower behind the Mexicans Joaquín Capilla. In the extremely tight decision of the Mexicans had at the end of 0.03 points ahead Tobian.

At the Pan American Games in 1959 Tobian won the competition in springboard diving. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 Tobian won also the competition from the 3- meter board. From the tower he was second again after 1956. He lay behind the born in California and studying in Michigan Robert Webster.

In 1978 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
