Gaspar Lax

Gaspar Lax (* 1487 Sariñena, † February 23, 1560 in Zaragoza ) was a acting in Paris Spanish mathematician, logician and philosopher.

Lax studied the liberal arts and theology in Zaragoza. He taught 1507/ 08 at the Collège de Calvi in Paris and then at the Collège de Montaigu, where he was a pupil of John Mair (or Major). From 1517 he was back at the Collège de Calvi. In Paris he was known as Prince of the Sophists. He taught until 1523 in Paris and then returned to Spain - then had to foreigners the Paris universities rely. In 1525 he taught in Zaragoza mathematics and philosophy, and remained there until his death. At times, he was Vice-Chancellor and Rector of the University.
