Gates to Purgatory is the debut album of the German band Running Wild. The album is the Heavy Metal or Speed Metal associate and was released by Noise Records in 1984.
Formation
In 1983, the band had recorded the song Adrian (SOS ) for the compilation Rock from Hell, live versions of Genghis Khan and Soldiers of Light had appeared on the unofficial demo cassette Heavy Metal Like a Hammerblow. In June 1984, Gates to Purgatory by Horst Müller was recorded in Caet Studio. The guitar runs were recorded in each case twice. Production in the DMM method took over the band itself
Title list
In 1988 the album on CD, with the publication of the songs Walpurgis Night ( which abruptly breaks off because of the condition of the master tape towards the end ) and Satan were added by the EP Victims of State Power.
Reviews
Bert Banger from the German Metal Hammer called Gates to Purgatory as " one of the best heavy metal discs that I have hunted this year through the hearing aid "; not because of the speed, but "just because this LP varied than the usual " " is pressings " Bläck Meddel; the musicians had shown " after the slightly wayward debut on the " Rock from Hell "and" Death Metal " samplers ", " that they are able to work also absolutely professional, if you give them just that opportunity. As with many other metal bands of the 1980s, also, these rumors but not met for; the texts were contrary to the faith of the then guitarist Preacher: During the Metal Hammer labeled him as " satanic mastermind " Preacher was studying theology and later became a Protestant pastor in Cologne.
