Gaylord Griswold

Gaylord Griswold ( born December 18, 1767 in Windsor, Connecticut; † March 1, 1809 in Herkimer, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1803 and 1805 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Gaylord Griswold was born during the British colonial period in Windsor, Hartford County and grew up there. He pursued classical antiquity Sciences and graduated in 1787 at Yale College. Griswold studied law. His admission to the bar he received in 1790 and then began practicing in Windsor. In 1792 he moved to Herkimer. He sat 1796-1798 in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Federalist Party. In the congressional elections of 1802 for the 8th Congress Griswold was in the 15th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he was the first representative of the district in the U.S. House of Representatives began its service on March 4, 1803. After his conference time he went to Herkimer back to his work as a lawyer after, where he died on 1 March 1809. His body was interred in Oak Hill Cemetery.
