Geča

Geča (Hungarian Hernádgecse - to 1907 Gecse ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 1631 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Košice - okolie, a part of the Košice Region and is located in the historic landscape abov.

Geography

The municipality is located in the southern part of the basin Košická kotlina on a river terrace of the Hornád. The center is located at an altitude of 181 m nm and is 12 kilometers south of Kosice.

History

Geča was first mentioned in 1255 as Jeche writing and was then part of belonging to the provost Jasov land. 1828 were counted 81 houses and 546 inhabitants.

Until 1919, the in- county Abaúj- Torna place belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today. 1938-45 he was on the basis of the First Vienna Award again in Hungary.
