Gécamines

Gecamines ( Générale des Carrière et Mines, formerly Union Minière du Haut Katanga ) is the name of a mining company and the associated mining complex in the Katanga Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the complex, has the dimensions of up to 300 km long and 70 km wide, copper and Cobalt ores are mainly degraded.

The nationalized since 1966 plant generated partly 70 % of the export earnings of the country. The reduction amounts totaled in the 70s on a year up to 700,000 tonnes of copper and 18,000 tons of cobalt. The first profitable investment was struggling since 1971 with the heavily copper prices. This eventually led to a reduction in the degradation capacity to around 30,000 tonnes of copper and 3,000 tonnes of cobalt in 1994.
