Gediminas Gelgotas

Gediminas Gelgotas ( born June, 1986 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian composer and conductor.

Life

Gelgotas comes from a musical family: his mother directs three choirs at the University of Vilnius, his father is part of the LNSO and teaches at the Music and Theatre Academy of Lithuania. His sister and his brother are musicians.

1993 begins Gelgotas his musical education at the MK Čiurlionis School of Arts with a major in piano. He also learned trumpet and composition in a class of Nailia Galiamova. In 2004, he attended master classes with trumpeter Leif Bengson and pianist Prof. Mūza Rubackytė.

Even during school hours Gelgotas participated successfully in various competitions, festivals and other musical projects part.

In 2003 he appeared as soloist with the National Philharmonic of Lithuania, 2004, he made ​​his debut as a composer and conductor of a choir of Vilnius University. At the Academy of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, he studied with the composer Peter Michael Hamel, and composition with Vytautas Barkauskas and conducting with Gintaras Rinkevičius at the LMTA.

Gelgotas is the founder and leader of the " New Ideas Chamber Orchestra " (NI & Co), which converts his compositions and performative ideas. With NICO Gelgotas played among others in Riga, St. Petersburg, Moscow, London, food, Düsburg, Kassel and other cities and won various prizes. 2010 Gelgotas has signed a contract with Peer Music Germany.
