Geki (racing driver)

Giacomo " Geki " Russo ( born October 23, 1937 in Milan, † June 18, 1967 in Caserta ) was an Italian racing driver and Formula 1 driver.

He was a talented driver in Formula lower classes. Thus he became in 1964 the first master of the Italian Formula 3 He also participated from 1964 to 1966 at three Formula 1 Grand Prix in part. In 1964, he was driving a Brabham for Rob Walker Racing, but failed to qualify for the race itself. 1965 and 1966 he went at each race for the Lotus factory team at the start.

He died in 1967 in a terrible accident in an Italian Formula 3 race at Caserta. Were after a mass accident in the Ernesto Brambilla, Clay Regazzoni, Jürg Dubler, Romano Perdomi and Corrado Manfredini involved, Beat Fehr stopped his vehicle and ran back to warn the vehicles behind. In the next vehicle group also Giacomo Russo, who could not avoid the collision with Fehr, who was killed was. Russo's Matra then drove into a brick wall and he died in the following fire.
