Gello

Gello (Greek Γελλώ ) is in Greek mythology, the spirit of a deceased unmarried girl who tries to steal some young women, pregnant women and infants and kill them. It is similar in the Lamia and the Mormons, and the strigae Roman mythology.

Gello first appears in Sappho. But the fear of Gello endures until late antiquity (eg in the Kyraniden ) and Byzantine period. Even today, the faith should have survived to Gello in rural areas of Greece.
