Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech

Gembloux Agro- Bio Tech (abbreviation GxABT ) is the name of a department of the University of Liège Gembloux with the location in the Belgian province of Namur. By 2009 the school had an independent higher education institution of Agricultural Sciences, bearing the name Faculté universitaire des Sciences de Gembloux agronomiques (abbreviation FUSAGx ). The school is the oldest Belgian teaching and research institution, for the purpose of agriculture and Bioengineering dedicated.
History
In 1860, the Institute agricole de l' Etat was founded in Gembloux, the first Belgian higher education institution of Agricultural Sciences. In 1920 the Institute was in Agronomic Institute de l'Etat and 1965 renamed budget in Faculté des Sciences de l' agronomiques. Today the French Community of Belgium is supporting the university. 2009 merged the Faculté universitaire des Sciences de Gembloux agronomiques with the University of Liège and is now called Gembloux Agro- Bio Tech ( GxABT ).
Campus
The university is located in the buildings of the abbey of Gembloux, a former Benedictine abbey, which was founded around the year 940 by St. Guibert of Gembloux and rebuilt in the classical style by architect Laurent- Benoît Dewez 1762-1779.
Organization
The university is divided into three sections, which each headed by additional fields:
- Environmental Sciences and Environmental (Sciences et Technologies de l' environnement )
- Agricultural Sciences (Sciences agronomiques )
- Chemistry and bio-industry ( Chimie et bio -industries )
