Gémonval

Gémonval is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Gémonval is located on 379 m, 10 km north of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs and about 16 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the valley of the Scey in the hills north of Doubstals, between the heights of Chanois in the west and Hautes -Roches in the east.

The area of ​​3.39 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills north of Doubstals. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of the Scey, which provides for the drainage to the north- west to Ognon. Is flanked this trough to the west of the foothills of the Chanois ( to 430 m). To the east, the municipality's area extends over a first gently, then steeply rising slope, which is crowned at the upper edge of a rock band, except for the Kalkhochfläche the Hautes -Roches. In this predominantly forested plateau is 513 m reaches the highest point of Gémonval.

History

In the Middle Ages Gémonval belonged to the rule Granges, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. In the 19th century, coal deposits were exploited here. Today Gémonval is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Population

With 78 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Gémonval is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 180 people were still counted ), several variations have been recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Gémonval was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Longevelle -sur -Doubs after Crevans. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 19 km. Further road links exist with Courbenans and La Chapelle.
