Genesius of Arles

Genesius of Arles ( Arles *, † 303 or 308) is a saint and martyr of the Catholic Church. He is the patron saint of notaries and scribes. His feast day is August 25.

Legend

According to legend, Genesius was at the time of the Roman emperors Diocletian and Maximian first soldier and later clerk of the court in the southern French city of Arles, which then belonged to the Roman province of Gaul. When they dictated to him the decree of persecution of Christians and he should write it down, he enraged against the judge. He threw the wax tablets at your feet and fled. Genesius was captured and executed. He was martyred by decapitation. He is one of the saints, though he was not baptized; martyrdom is considered a baptism of blood.
