Geneviève Laporte

Geneviève Laporte, married name Geneviève Laporte Pierre de Bourg, ( born 1926 in Paris, † 31 March 2012) was a French writer, poet, filmmaker and model and mistress of Pablo Picasso in the early 1950s.

Life and work

Geneviève Laporte was a 17- year-old schoolgirl when she interviewed Picasso in World War II in 1944 for their school newspaper in Paris. At that time she had already joined the Resistance. In 1951 she met after a stay in the United States, the almost fifty years older artists again, who was still in a relationship with Françoise Gilot and had two children with her. Laporte had a first secret affair with Picasso, she spent the summer with him and the couple Éluard in Saint Tropez. It created drawings and paintings of her, which denote some art historians as the "Period Geneviève " or "soft period". Two years later - Gilot had left him - Picasso made her proposal to move in with him to the French Riviera, and she refused. In 1959 she married a former member of the French Resistance, Pierre Olivier de Bourg, with whom she had a son.

Laporte turned 18 documentaries in Africa and published, among others, Pablo Picasso, the first volume was published in 1973 shortly after the death of Picasso, entitled Si tard le soir le soleil brille. In 1999, she won a prize from the Académie française for a book of poems.

In June 2005, Laporte was auctioned at an auction in Paris 20 works, the show mainly as motives Picasso's portraits of her. The proceeds of 1.54 million euros was founded later by her little foundation " Genevieve Laporte Pierre de Bourg, pour la defense de la nature et des animaux " benefit.

Geneviève Laporte died on 31 March 2012 at the age of 86 years and rests in the cemetery of the church Bousselargue Blesle.
