Geneviève Simard

Geneviève Simard ( born November 5, 1980 in Montreal, Quebec ) is a former Canadian alpine skier. She was particularly successful in the disciplines of giant slalom and Super -G.

Biography

Simards skiing career began in late 1995 with inserts in FIS races and in the Nor- Am Cup, and later European Cup races were added. On 19 November 1998 she went for the first time in the World Cup at the start, in the giant slalom at Park City. In the season 1998/ 99 of the Nor -Am Cup slalom, she decided the rating itself.

World Cup points brought Simard for the first time on 21 November 2001 with the 15th place in the giant slalom at Copper Mountain. Ten days later, she took in the Super G in Lake Louise a stir when she reached as the final started runner (car number 63) the 11th Place. A few weeks later, on 19 January 2001, she scored in the giant slalom in Berchtesgaden again with a high starting number (46 ) a surprising third place. At the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City she finished 7th in the combination.

The 2002/03 season was not quite as successful as the previous winter, Bestergebnis was a sixth place in the Super G in Lake Louise. In the 2003 World Cup in St. Moritz missed it as fourth in the super-G the podium just barely. On 14 January 2004, she succeeded in the super- G on the Tofana in Cortina d'Ampezzo, the only World Cup victory.

In the winter of 2004 /05, Simard definitively established among the world leaders in the giant slalom, thanks to four top - 10 finishes. At the 2005 World Championships in Santa Caterina, it achieved eighth place in the giant slalom. In the seasons 2004/ 05 and 2005/ 06 she made it twice in a row to occupy the fifth place in the World Cup rankings this discipline. During the season 2007/ 08 she was sidelined due to injury. After that, they could not repeat her previous performances and finally gave her resignation on 21 January 2010.
