Gennady Korban

Gennady Vladimirovich Korban (Russian Геннадий Владимирович Корбан, born 1 February 1949) is a former Soviet wrestler.

Career

Gennady Korban comes from Engels in the Soviet Union. As a teenager, he began to struggle, without being able to claim first attention. He joined the Soviet army and found there good training conditions. However, it took until his 30th birthday before he became Soviet champion in Greco-Roman wrestling in the middleweight division for the first time. It has to be noted, however, that the width of Spitzenkönnern in the Soviet Union in the struggle was enormous. Gennadi succeeded in 1979 still the world champions of the past years Anatoly Nazarenko and Vladimir Tscheboksarow defeat and qualify for the World Championship in San Diego. He started there a short but highly successful international career. In San Diego he became World Champion with five wins superior immediately.

This success, he confirmed in a convincing manner the following year 1980. Initially Gennady was in Slovak Prievidza European champions, where he had to compete against the Romanians Ion Draica a very tough battle, which remained without judgment, and then he won in Moscow the gold medal at the Olympic Games. In the following 1981 Gennadi again won the European Championship and in the autumn of the World Cup. He played in these two tournaments twelve fights, of which he won, although contrary presented him the world class wrestler Momir Petkovic, Ion Draica Jan Dolgowicz, Pavel Pavlov, Leif Andersson and Sören Claesson. Gennady has topped them all.

After these victories came from Gennadi at the height of his success, with 32 years. in 28 fights in international championships he won 27 times.

In the next decade he continued to live as a soldier in the Soviet Union, but moved in 1991 to the Federal Republic of Germany. Although he was already over 40 years old, he started a few years of success for the KSV Köllerbach in the Ringer - Bundesliga and is now working there as a coach.
