GenoMik

The research and funding Initiative Genome - genetics of microorganisms is by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research ( BMBF) in 2001 launched program to study the genomes of selected microorganisms. In the first phase, it ran until 2004 and in the second phase by 2006. Entitled genomics Plus, the project will run until 2009.

Objective is the promotion and coordination of university and private sector genomics of microorganisms. Three so-called competence networks have been funded in the first two phases:

All competence networks are led by university institutions, however, represent a collaboration between industrial and academic research selcetion

The successor program GenoMik -Plus was launched in the summer of 2006 with a new three -year funding phase to undergo in the course developed by GenoMik genome sequences for further analysis. Funding is again three networks:

Add to this a all researchers accessible technology platform for microbial genome research. The three modules of the platform are located in Bielefeld, Göttingen and Greifswald and provide technical support for genome sequencing ( Göttingen), Bioinformatics ( Bielefeld) and proteomics ( Greifswald).
