Genouilly (Cher)
Genouilly is a commune with 708 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Cher in the Centre region; it belongs to the district Vierzon and Canton Graçay.
History
The name of the place was in Gallo-Roman Geniulacum or Genoliacum; In 1264 he was called Genoili 1371 Genoilhi.
About 100 feet below the mound " Le Mouton " (presumably a variant of " Motton " and thus a reference to an old moth that was built at the end of the 9th century to fend off the Normans ) two stone stelae were found, one with a Latin and a with a Greek inscription. The steles are now in the museum in Bourges.
