The Chinese jewelry gentian ( Gentiana sino- ornata ), also called Chinese autumn gentian, is a species of the genus Gentiana (Gentiana ). He arrives in China at altitudes 2800-4600 m.

Description

The Chinese jewelry Gentian is a perennial plant with a height of 10 to 15 cm. The upright, hairless stems are branched short, some branches do not bear flowers. The leaves of the basal rosette are weak. The leaf blade is narrow triangular, 4 to 6 mm long and 2-5 mm wide. The standing of the stems leaves are bent upwards and are available for shoot tip toward larger and denser, the top stand around the calyx. The midrib is distinct. The lower to middle stem leaves are 7 to 10 mm long and 2 to 2.5 mm wide, yet they shall 1 to 3.5 cm long and 2-3 mm wide. The lower 2 to 4 mm of the leaf blades of rosette leaves and the bottom 2 to 3 mm of the leaf blades of the stem leaves are wedge-shaped, the tip is sharpened, the blade edge is rough.

Flowering and fruit ripening time of the Chinese jewelry gentian is May to October. The flowers are single, terminal and are sessile. The calyx tube is narrow inverted cone-shaped and 1.3 to 1.5 cm long, the sepals are green, linear - lanceolate to lanceolate and also 1.3 to 1.5 cm long. The edge is rough, the tip is pointed, the midrib is distinct. The crown is pale blue at the base, pale yellow to white and have a dark- blue stripes or dots. It is inversely conical to inversely conical - shaped and Roehrig is 5 to 6 cm long. The corolla lobes are ovate and 7 to 8 mm long, the margin is entire. The appendage in the folds between the conjoined petals are ovate and 2 to 3 mm long, its edge is entire, blunt tip. The stamens set in the middle of the corolla tube, the stamens are about 1 to 1.2 cm long, the anthers are narrow elliptic and 3 to 3.5 mm long. The stylus has a length of 6 to 7 mm, it ends in linealischen stigma lobes.

The fruits are ovoid - elliptical capsules with a length of 2.5 to 2.7 cm, the Gynophor is up to 2.5 cm long. The seeds are light brown, elliptical and 0.8 to 1 mm in size.

Occurrence

The species grows in China in the west of Sichuan, to the east of Tibet, and in the northwest of Yunnan. The sites are located at altitudes 2800-4600 meters.

System

Within the species, two varieties and one form can be distinguished:

• Gentiana sino- ornata var sino- ornata: This variety comes in China in Eastern Tibet, Northwest Yunnan and western Sichuan at altitudes 2800-4600 meters in front. The stem leaves are lanceolate to linear- lanceolate, the crown is narrow funnel shaped up.
• Gentiana sino- ornata var gloriosa Marquand: This variety comes in China in Southeast Tibet, northwestern Yunnan and southwestern Sichuan on wet water meadows, alpine meadows and shrubbery rich meadows at altitudes 3000-4300 meters in front. The stem leaves are elliptic - lanceolate, the crown is funnel - shaped tube.
• Gentiana sino- ornata f alba ( Forrest ) Marquand: This form is available in China in northwestern Yunnan and southwestern Sichuan ago on wet alluvial meadows and alpine meadows at altitudes 3600-4300 meters. The crown is white.

Use

The Chinese jewelry gentian is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens. She is the parent plant of many hybrids. There are numerous varieties (selection):

• ' Bellatrix ': The crown is white with blue polka dots.
• ' Blue Dwarf ': The plants are kurztriebig.
• ' Excelsior ': The plants are big.
• ' Pilate spirit ': the plants are floriferous.

There are also varieties with double flowers. The species is in cultivation since about 1910.
