Geode (trade association)

The Groupement Européen des entreprises et de Distribution d' Organismes energy (French, German European Association of independent electricity and gas distribution companies ), short GEODE, is an association that represents the interests of independent energy companies in Europe.

Objectives and tasks

GEODE was founded in 1991. The seat of the Association of Barcelona was chosen. As part of the forthcoming liberalization of the energy market GEODE should guarantee an efficient representation for independent power company.

Across Europe, more than 500 companies are represented directly and indirectly through cooperative societies as members of the association. President of the Association since May 2011: Reinhard Brehmer, CEO WIEN ENERGIE GmbH electricity grid.

The Association is based in Brussels, since April 2006, there is a branch in Berlin.

The main objectives of the association are the active use for a single European energy market with pluralistic structure, to create fair competition for all market participants, ensuring the public service of independent energy companies, and fair framework with market opportunities for small and medium businesses.
