Geoffrey II, Count of Gâtinais

Gottfried II Ferréol (franz Geoffroy Ferréol, † April 30, 1042 /45) was a Count of Gâtinais in the 11th century. As a great-grandfather in a direct male line of Count Geoffrey Plantagenet of Anjou, he is one of the progenitors of the English royal house of Plantagenet, but even he probably came out of the house Châteaudun.

Gottfried Ferréol was a son of Hugh of Le Perche and Beatrix of Macon, a younger brother named Liétald. So his mother had been married in the first marriage with Count Godfrey I of Gâtinais, their common son of the Earl of Gâtinais Aubry was, the Gottfried Ferréol succeeded as his half-brother. His father, Hugh of Le Perche ( Hugonis Pertice ), was probably identical with the same name son of the Earl of Mortagne Fulcois from the house Châteaudun, which is mentioned in a document of the Abbey of Saint -Vincent of Le Mans in the year 1061. Count Aubry from Câtinais died between the years 1028 and 1030, after which could follow him Gottfried Ferréol. Any official acts by him are known.

Gottfried Ferréol was married to Ermengarde of Anjou, daughter of Count Fulk III. Nerra of Anjou. About it initiated his sons their claim from the important county of Anjou.

Died Gottfried Ferréol is at an April 30, as shown in a deed of gift of his eldest son. The death of Godfrey can only dare narrow, but his second son might have been the year 1042/43 already born to him posthumously. His widow remarried by 1047 the Duke Robert I of Burgundy.
