Geoffrey Kingscott

Arthur Geoffrey Scott King ( May 22nd, 1936 in Derby, † March 2, 2011 in Sawley ) was a British translator, author, journalist, editor and politician. He has published several articles and books on railway history and founded two translation companies.

Career

Geoffrey Scott King was active in his youth in politics. He founded the Derbyshire nationalist party and later became a member of the Labour Party. He was also chairman of the Long Eaton Labour Party. 1954-58 King Scott studied French at University College London.

After that he worked as a trainee journalist for the newspaper Pontypridd Observer and from 1959 for the Long Eaton Advertiser. The following year he became an independent director of a news agency and has held this position for the next ten years.

In 1969, the agency was sold and King Scott began to work as a freelance translator. His first company, King Scott Translations, was based in Derby Road, Long Eaton and Leeds. In 1984 he founded another company in Nottingham translation, Praetorius Limited. Later this company was based in Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Mulhouse ( France) and Chicago (USA).

Thematic priorities

As a translator, Scott King was dedicated to economic and technical translation, computer-assisted translation (CAT ) and terminology from French, German, Italian, Spanish and Dutch into English. In addition, he was Director of Praetorius Limited ( translation and publishing company ) and font manager at Language International.
