Georg Alexander, Duke of Mecklenburg

Georg Alexander, Duke of Mecklenburg ( born August 27, 1921 in Nice; † 26 January 1996 Mirow; Complete name: Georg Alexander Andreas Carl Michael Peter Philipp Ignatius Maria, Duke of Mecklenburg ) was the oldest son of Georg, Duke of Mecklenburg, and a great-grandson the Grand Duke Georg (1779-1860), the regent of Mecklenburg -Strelitz, the brother of Queen Louise of Prussia ( 1776-1810 ).

Life

George Alexander was from 1963 to 1996 head of the House of Mecklenburg- Strelitz by an agreement with the House of Mecklenburg -Schwerin from the year 1950. He was honorary and Devotionsritter of the Sovereign Order of Malta.

Until 1940 he lived at Castle Remplin at Malchin. On the night of April 11, 1940 it was sacked at the instance of the Gauleiter of Mecklenburg -Lübeck. In 1944 he was interned after the imprisonment of his father in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp by the Gestapo on a stauffenbergischen castle. After 1945 he was regarded as a persecuted by the Nazi regime. He studied law and graduated as a bank clerk.
