Georg Wickram

Jörg Wickram (* 1505 in Colmar, † before 1562 Burkheim ( Vogt castle in the Emperor chair) ) was a versatile and prolific writer Early New.

Life

Wickram was the illegitimate son of the President of the Council of Colmar, Konrad Wickram and was descended from a distinguished patrician family. However, as the illegitimate son he did not receive a thorough education. At first he was in Colmar goldsmith, painter and then usher. From about 1530 first literary works were published. 1546 was Wickram citizens of Colmar. In 1543 he was there mentioned as a bookseller.

In Colmar, he founded a Meistersinger school, he gave the songs Kolmarer handwriting. 1555 Wickram was town clerk in Burkheim the Emperor chair. The last years of his life he seems to have been ill. After 1556 no new work by him has appeared more. His exact year of death is unknown; in 1562, published in Strasbourg pressure he is referred to as deceased.
