Georg Wolfgang Wedel

Georg Wolfgang Wedel ( born November 12, 1645 Golßen in Lower Lusatia, † September 6, 1721 in Jena ) was a German physician.

Life

The son of the pastor Johann Georg Wedel studied from the age of 16 ½ years of medicine at the University of Jena, at Schenck and Rolfink. A subsequent study abroad he had to give up because of the death of his father and remained in Jena. He practiced in Landsberg and Züllichau until he was appointed in 1667 as Stadtphysikus to Gotha. After he had acquired in 1672 in Jena doctorate, he took over the chair of medicine here.

From 1685 he was a princely Saxon personal physician and Imperial since 1694, Count Palatine. He was a follower of the teachings of Franciscus Sylvius chemiatrischen.

His sons Ernst Heinrich Wedel (August 1, 1671 - April 13, 1709 ) and Johann Adolf Wedel ( 1675-1747 ) were also physicians.
