George B. Rodney
George Brydges Rodney ( born April 2, 1803 in Lewes, Delaware, † June 18 1883 in New Castle, Delaware ) was an American politician ( Whig Party ), who represented the state of Delaware in the U.S. House of Representatives.
George B. Rodney was a member of a family that produced many famous politicians. At that included, among others Caesar Rodney, Caesar A. Rodney and Thomas Rodney. His father Daniel Rodney was 1814-1817 Governor of Delaware and briefly representatives of his home state in the U.S. Senate.
In 1820 Rodney graduated at Princeton College; after that he worked as a notary on chancery and official in the Guardianship Court of Sussex County. Finally, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1828 and commenced practice as a lawyer in New Castle County.
Politically, Rodney operated from 1840, when he was elected to the House of Representatives in Washington; During this period he with 54 percent of the vote through against the Democratic incumbent Thomas Robinson. The Congress he was a member for a re-election in 1842 - this time with the whole nine -vote lead over Democrat William H. Jones - of between 4 March 1841 to 3 March 1845. As a result, he refocused on his legal profession. In 1861 he participated as delegate to Delaware's at peace Convention in Washington, was trying in vain in which to stop the impending Civil War.
