George C. Jenkins

George Clarke Jenkins ( born November 19, 1908 in Baltimore, Maryland, † April 6, 2007 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American art director and production designer, who once won the Academy Award for Best Production Design.

Life

Jenkins began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry Hollywood's The Best Years of Our Lives (1946 ) and worked until 1990 at the scenic and facilities for over forty films.

In 1977, he won the Academy Awards with George Gaines Academy Award for Best Production Design in The Untouchables ( 1976) by Alan J. Pakula starring Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford and Jack Warden in the lead roles. He was also nominated for Best Production Design for these films for the British Academy Film Awards ( BAFTA Film Award ).

In 1980 he was awarded with Arthur Jeph Parker an Academy Award nomination for Best Production Design in The China Syndrome (1979 ) by James Bridges with Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon and Michael Douglas. For his contributions to the film industry Jenkins was appointed as representative of the Artdirectoren also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
