George Harrison Shull

George Harrison Shull ( born April 15, 1874 in Clark County, Ohio, USA, † September 28, 1954 in Princeton, New Jersey) was an American botanist and plant geneticist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Shull ".

Shull discovered the heterosis effect in maize. Due to his discovery of the yield in maize production could be increased by up to 50 %. Today in economically operating companies comes only hybrid maize for sowing.
